Can't open your DAV file? Here's how to fix it

Modified on Mon, Jun 30 at 3:12 PM

If you're having trouble opening a video file with the .dav extension after backing up footage from your Lorex recorder, here's how to fix the issue and avoid it in the future.

Option 1: Use the Included Lorex Video Player

When you back up a video from your recorder, the Lorex Video Player is automatically included in the same download folder.

To play your DAV file:

  1. Open the folder where you saved your backup.
  2. Look for the Lorex Player application file.
  3. Double-click to open the Lorex Player.
  4. Use it to open and watch your DAV file.

The Lorex Player supports DAV, AVI, and MP4 files, so no additional software is required.

Option 2: Select a Different Format Next Time

When you back up footage from your Lorex recorder, you’ll see a prompt asking where to save the file. This same window includes an option to choose the file format

By default, DAV is selected first. But you can change it.

To save in AVI or MP4 format:

  1. When the backup window opens, look for the File Format options.
  2.  Select AVI or MP4 instead of DAV.
  3. Click Backup to continue.
