Lorex App - Reduce Unwanted Alerts from Wi-Fi Security Cameras

If your Lorex Wi-Fi cameras are sending more notifications than expected, you can resolve this by adjusting your motion detection, alert preferences, and app settings. This guide covers all the steps.

Snooze Alerts Temporarily

Need a break from notifications? Use the Snooze Alerts feature for a quick pause.

To snooze alerts:

1. Open the Lorex App.
   
2. Tap the Snooze Alerts button  on your camera's thumbnail.
3. Choose a duration: Snooze for 30 mins, until end of the day, or Turn Off Alerts.

Set a Notification Schedule

Only receive alerts when it matters most - like overnight or while you're away.

To set a notifications schedule:

1. Open the Lorex App.
2. Tap the Device Settings button [] for your camera.
3. Go to Notifications.
   
4. Enable Alert Notifications, and configure:
   • Notification Schedule: Define time ranges (in 24-hour format) when alerts should be active.
   • Alert and Event Thumbnails: Enable to receive image previews in your alerts.
5. Enable Offline Notifications to be notified if the camera loses Wi-Fi connection.

Customize Motion & Smart Detection

Reduce false alerts by selecting the exact motion types you want to be notified about, such as people, vehicles, or packages.

To enable and customize motion detection:

1. Open the Lorex app.
2. Tap the Device Settings button  for your camera.
3. Tap Motion Detection Settings.
   
4. Enable Motion Detection. 
5. Enable (or disable) Smart Motion Detection types, depending on your camera model: 
   1. Person Detection
   2. Vehicle Detection
   3. Animal Detection
   4. Package Detection, etc.
6. If available, enable Auto-Tracking to follow person or vehicle detected motion.

Note: Disabling motion detection will also disable all smart detection features, and you won't receive motion based alerts. Smart motion detection features vary by camera.

Lower Motion Sensitivity

If your camera triggers alerts for minor movements (like rustling leaves), you may need to reduce sensitivity.

To adjust motion sensitivity:

1. Open the Lorex App.
2. Tap the Device Settings button  for your camera.
3. Go to Motion Detection Settings > Motion Sensitivity.
   
4. Adjust the sensitivity slider to a lower level.
5. Tap Save.

Use Motion Zones to Focus on What Matters

Avoid alerts from busy sidewalks, roads, or other irrelevant areas by drawing custom motion zones.

To set Motion Zones:

1. Open the Lorex App.
2. Tap the Device Settings button  for your camera.
3. Go to Motion Detection Settings > Motion Zones.
4. Choose to draw General Motion Zone or Person/Vehicle Motion Zone.
   

General Motion Zone

1. Use the grid overlay to select areas where motion will be detected.
2. Tap grid squares to activate (blue) or deactivate (unselected).
   
3. Zone Management Tools:
   • Erase: Remove specific grid boxes.
   • Invert: Switch between selected and unselected areas.
   • Clear: Reset the entire grid.

Person/Vehicle Motion Zone

1. Tap the corner anchors of the motion zone box to resize or move it as needed.
2. Adjust the zone to focus on specific areas for person or vehicle detection.
   
3. Zone Management Tools:
   • Clear: Remove all zones.
   • Reset: Return to default zone settings.
   • Add: Create an additional motion zone.
   • Delete: Remove a specific motion zone.

Lower Sound Detection Sensitivity

Unwanted alerts from loud noises like traffic or pets? Lower the sound sensitivity.

To adjust sound detection:

1. Open the Lorex App.
2. Tap the Device Settings button for your camera.
3. Go to Sound Detection Settings.
   
4. Lower the Sound Sensitivity level.
5. Tap Save.

Use Privacy Mode When You're Active Outside

Avoid alerts when you're outside doing chores or hosting guests.

To enable privacy mode:

1. From the Devices screen: Tap the Privacy Mode toggle on the camera's thumbnail.
   

2. From Live View: Tap the Privacy Mode button.
   

Set Up Home & Away 

Let the app manage alerts automatically based on your phone's location.

To enable Home & Away:

1. Open the Lorex App.
2. Tap Settings > Home & Away.
   
3. Tap Enable.
4. If prompted, allow Always on Location Access in your phone's settings.
5. Adjust the map and tap Set Home Area to confirm the location.
   
6. Then configure your Notification Settings:
   • Configure Notifications for Home: Enable or disable alerts for each camera while you're home.
   • Configure Notifications for Away: Enable or disable alerts while you're away.
7. Other options:
   • Tap Modify Home Area to adjust the geofence anytime.
   • To turn off Home & Away, just tap Disable Home & Away.
