Transferring Lorex Devices and Account Ownership

Modified on Fri, Jun 27 at 4:42 PM

Whether you're selling, giving away, or just receiving a Lorex device, it's important to properly transfer ownership to ensure the new owner can use the system without issues.

Lorex devices can only be registered to one account at a time. If the previous owner doesn’t remove the device from their account or cloud plan, the new owner won’t be able to complete setup.

This guide covers both the Lorex App (home systems) and the Lorex Pro App (business systems/recorders).

TABLE OF CONTENTS

For Current Owners: Before You Transfer Your Device

Make sure to complete the steps below before handing the device to someone else. Skip any step that doesn't apply to your setup.

Only applies if your device was ever connected to a Lorex Cloud Storage Plan.

  1. Go to cloud.lorex.com.
  2. Log in with your Lorex account.
  3. Find your subscription.
  4. Click Modify Plan.
  5. Uncheck the device from the plan.
  6. Click Apply Changes.
If the device isn’t removed from your cloud plan, the new owner won’t be able to use cloud features or add it to their own account.

2. Remove the Device from Your App Account

For Lorex App Users

  1. Open the Lorex App.
  2. Tap your camera's Device Settings icon .
  3. Scroll down and tap Remove Device.
  4. Confirm the removal.
  5. Factory Reset the Device

This will erase all settings and restore the device to its original state, ready for a new user.

Recorder: Please refer to the owner's manual for detailed instructions specific to your recorder model.

Wi-Fi Camera: Physically reset your Wi-Fi camera by pressing the reset button on the device.

(If you're unsure where the reset button is located, refer to your camera's product documentation.)

For Lorex Pro App Users (Business or Recorder Owners)

  1. Open the Lorex Pro App.
  2. Go to Device Settings ().
  3. Tap the Reset button in the app to reset the device.
  4. Once reset, tap Delete to remove it from your account.

For New Owners: Setting Up a Transferred Device

Having Trouble Adding the Device?

If you try to set up the device and receive an error that it’s already registered:

  • Contact the previous owner.
  • Ask them to:
    • Remove the device from their Lorex App account.
    • Unlink it from their Lorex Cloud plan (if applicable).
  • For Wi-Fi Cameras: Reset the device.
Simply deleting the app does not transfer or release device ownership.

If You Can't Contact the Previous Owner

In cases where you're unable to reach the previous owner, your options will depend on the type of device you’ve acquired.

Standard Devices (Lorex App or Legacy Systems)

For most Lorex devices, especially legacy models and those using the standard Lorex App, device ownership is tied to the original account for security and privacy reasons.

  • Lorex cannot remove, reset, or transfer ownership without the original account holder's involvement.
  • Account credentials and ownership permissions are private and cannot be bypassed or disclosed.

If the previous owner is unreachable and the device is still registered under their account, it will remain locked.

Good news: You may qualify for the Lorex Upgrade Program, which offers exclusive discounts on the latest Lorex systems. Eligibility depends on product availability.

Business Recorder Systems (Lorex Pro App)

If you're trying to set up a recorder system that uses the Lorex Pro App, and you're unable to contact the previous owner, go to www.lorex.com > My Account > Reset Device Password and fill out the password reset form.
