Solar Panel Placement Tips

Proper solar panel placement is the key to consistent, long-term power. Follow these tips to get the best performance from your solar panel.

  1. Find a Location With Full Sunlight
    • Install the solar panel where it gets 4-6+ hours of direct sunlight, ideally between 10 AM and 3 PM.
    • Avoid placing the solar panel under trees, roofs, awnings, or shaded areas.
  2.  Face the Panel in the Right Direction
    • Northern Hemisphere, angle the panel to face south
    • Southern Hemisphere, angle the panel to face north
  3.  Adjust the Tilt Angle Seasonally
For maximum efficiency, adjust the solar panel’s tilt angle a few times a year:
    • Winter: Steeper angle (closer to vertical) to catch lower sun.
    • Summer: Flatter angle (more horizontal) to match higher sun.
    • Use the Adjustment Ring to easily change the panel’s tilt.
    • Rule of Thumb: Set the angle close to your latitude for year-round balance. (e.g., 30° if you live at 30° latitude)
  4. Pre-charge the Battery Camera Battery
    • Fully charge your battery camera before switching to solar power.
    • The solar panel is designed to maintain charge, not recharge from 0%.
  5. Check for Safety Before Drilling
    • Use a stud finder or inspection tool to check for hidden wires, pipes, or hazards.
    • If desired, drill a hole to run the cable through the wall for a cleaner look. If unsure, consult a licensed electrician or professional installer.
  6. Clean the Solar Panel Occasionally
    • Wipe the solar panel with a soft cloth and water.
    • Don't use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Solar Panel Installation

  1. Find a mounting location with full sunlight (refer to the solar panel placement tips above).
  2. Place the provided sticker mounting template on the surface.

  3. Drill where marked. Use anchors if installing into drywall.

  4. Screw the bracket into place with the provided screws.

  5. Insert the threaded end of the bracket into the socket on the back of the solar panel, then twist the solar panel until fully attached.
  6. Tighten the Locking Ring (small ring) to secure the solar panel to the bracket.

  7. Loosen the bracket's Adjustment Ring (large ring). Tilt the solar panel 30° toward direct sunlight, then tighten the Adjustment Ring to lock the angle.

(Refer to the solar panel placement tips above.)

  8. Connect the solar panel cable to the battery camera's power port.
    • Open the battery camera's power port cover.
    • Look at the shape of the power port:
      • If the port is USB-C (rounded and larger): Plug the solar panel's cable directly into the power port.
      • If the port is Micro-USB (smaller and flat): Attach the Micro-USB Adapter to the solar panel cable first, then plug it into the power port.
Fully charge your battery camera before switching to solar power.
Important: The solar panel’s USB-C cable and the included micro-USB adapter are designed with a waterproof connection specifically for Lorex battery-operated cameras. Using these accessories with cameras from other brands may compromise the waterproof protection and is not covered under our IP rating guarantee.
