Lorex Connect App - FAQ & Troubleshooting

Important: App screens may look different depending on your device model, firmware version, and app updates. The instructions below are a general guide.

This FAQ answers the most common questions about using the Lorex Connect app, such as how to view live video, record, manage notifications, tune motion/person detection, find saved media, update firmware, and fix common issues.

General Questions


I forgot my app password, how do I reset it? 

  1. Tap Log in > Forgot Password on the app’s login screen. 
  2. Enter your email and country, then follow the two-step verification. 
    • Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email. 
    • Create a new password and log in again.


How do I change my camera’s Wi-Fi network?

If you’ve updated your router, Wi-Fi name (SSID), or password, you’ll need to reconnect your camera to the new network.

  1. Tap Settings > Device info > Wi-Fi network.
  2. Select your new Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
  3. Wait for the camera to reconnect. The status LED light will turn green when the connection is successful.
Note: Check your camera’s product specifications to confirm which Wi-Fi bands it supports (some cameras support 2.4 GHz only, while others are dual-band).


Where are my device settings?

  1. On Home, tapSettings on a camera's image preview.
  2. Tap Settings to access Detection, Notifications & Alerts, Video, Audio, Light, Siren, Storage, Device info, etc.


How do I check my firmware version and update?

  1. Go to the camera’s Settings > Device info > Firmware.
  2. A red dot means an update is available. Tap Update Now and keep the camera powered and online until it’s done.
Note: Update the app from the App Store/Google Play regularly.


How do I enable/disable notifications or set quiet hours?

  1. Per device: Settings > Notifications & alerts.
  2. Turn on/off Alerts, choose alert types, and set a Notification schedule (quiet hours).


How do I group devices?

You can group multiple cameras together in the Lorex Connect app to view and manage them more easily from one place. This is useful if you have several devices in the same area.

  1. Tap Settings, then select Add to group.
  2. Enter a Group name (for example, “My Home”).
  3. Select the devices you want to include, then tap Save.
Note: Grouping currently helps you organize cameras for easier viewing. Group light control will be available in a future update.


Live View, Recording & Snapshots


How do I watch Live view?

  1. On Home, tap your camera’s image preview to open Live view.
  2. Use on-screen controls: resolution, audio, full screen, snapshot, record, light, siren, talk, respond, and (on supported models) Pan/Tilt.


How do I start/stop a manual recording?

  1. In Live view, tap Record to start; tap again to stop and save.
  2. Recordings save to Snapshots & recordings (on your phone) and will include audio if enabled.


How do I take a snapshot?

  1. In Live view, tap Snapshot to capture the current frame.
  2. Find it in App Settings > Snapshots & recordings.


Playback


How do I open Playback?

  • From Live view, tap  Playback, or tap thePlayback button from Home.


How do I find specific recordings?

  1. In Playback, tap Today to choose a date.
  2. Switch between List (clip previews) or Timeline (hourly) view.
  3. Tap Filters to narrow by detection type (Motion, Person, Vehicle, Sound, etc.) or time of day.


Detection (Motion, AI Detection, Motion Zones)


Where do I change detection settings? 

  • Per camera: Settings > Detection settings.
  • Turn Motion/AI detection on/off, set Detection sensitivity, and draw Motion zones.
  • AI detection types vary by camera (For example, Person, Vehicle, Package, Animal).
  • If available, you may also see options like Auto-Tracking and Activate siren on detection.


Shared Users


How do I share my device with another person?

Use Shared Users to let trusted people view your camera or access select features like Live View, Playback, and Events.

  1. OnHome, tapSettings on your camera’s image preview, then select Share device.
  2. Select which permissions to share, enter the person’s email (they must have a Lorex Connect account), then tap Confirm.
  3. They’ll receive an app notification to Accept the shared device.


How do I manage shared users?

  • Go to App Settings > Shared users to view, edit permissions, or remove shared users.

  • Pending invites or shared users can be removed (Delete) anytime.
Important: Only share with people you trust. You can revoke access at any time.

Snapshots & Recordings (Saved Media)


Where is the Snapshots & Recordings album?

  1. Go to App Settings > Snapshots & recordings.
  2. Browse by date; use More to change View (Grid/List) or Sort (Newest/Oldest).
  3. Open an image preview to Share or Download.


Device Settings (Video, Audio, Light, Siren, Storage, Device info)

  • Video: Settings > Video settings (Resolution, Colour Night Vision, Timestamp/Watermark, Orientation).
  • Audio: Settings >  Audio settings (Speaker volume, Microphone sensitivity, Audio recording).
  • Light: Settings > Light settings (Motion-activated lighting, brightness, duration, schedules).
  • Siren: Settings > Siren settings (Volume/tone on supported models).
  • Share device: Settings > Share device (Add, change permissions, remove).
  • Storage: Settings > Storage (MicroSD capacity/format).
  • Device info: Settings > Device Info (Device name, time zone, firmware update, Wi-Fi network, signal strength, Reboot device).
  • Reboot device: Settings > Device info > Reboot device.
  • Remove device: Settings > Remove device


Account, Security & App Settings

  • Open App Settings: Tap theApp Settings tab.
  • Change password / Face ID / Export data: Account settings > Privacy and security.
  • Delete account: Account settings > Account information > Delete account.
  • Language: Account settings > App language (English, Español, Français).
  • Shared users: Shared users (Add, change permissions, remove).
  • Subscriptions: Manage subscriptions.
  • Log out: Support & Info > Log out.

Storage: MicroSD


How do I use microSD storage?

  1. Insert a compatible high-endurance microSD card.
  2. Settings > Storage > Format storage (formatting erases all data).
  3. When full, oldest clips overwrite automatically.

Troubleshooting by Symptom


Troubleshooting sharing

  • Invite not received: Check spam/junk, verify the email, then delete and send it again.
  • Recipient can’t accept: Ask them to sign in with the same email the invite was sent to and confirm their account.
  • They can view but can’t change settings: Change their permissions if appropriate.
  • Too many users: Remove old/unused shared users.
  • No notifications for the shared user: They must enable alerts on their own phone and in Notifications & alerts for that device.

I’m not receiving notifications

  1. App
    • Settings > Notifications & alerts; ensure Alerts are on; check schedule isn't muting.
    • App Settings > Notifications & alerts; check Push notifications schedule isn’t muting.
  2. Phone OS: Allow notifications for Lorex Connect.
  3. Detection: Enable required Motion, Person, Vehicle, Sound, Animal, Package in Detection settings.
    Note: Your camera may have different AI detection options depending on the model.
  4. Status: Device must be online (see Settings >Device info > Wi-Fi network).


I’m getting too many alerts

  • Decrease the Detection sensitivity to low; draw Motion Zones to exclude streets/trees.
  • Set up AI detection (Person, Vehicle, Animal, Package) over generic motion in busy scenes.
  • Filter out certain detection types in Settings > Notifications & Alerts.


Live view is offline / black / buffering

  • Verify internet is working; reboot router and camera (Settings > Device info > Reboot device)
  • Check Device info > Wi-Fi network and Signal strength; move closer to the router or use an extender.
  • Ensure Privacy Mode is off; verify Speaker volume and Resolution.
  • Update firmware (Settings > Device info > Firmware) and update app.


I can’t find recordings in Playback

  • Tap , pick the correct date; clear Filters.
  • Ensure the microSD is inserted & formatted.
  • Ensure detection is enabled (Settings > Detection settings) and time zone is correct (Settings > Device info > Time zone).


App can’t find my device during setup

  • Use the correct 2.4 GHz/5 GHz SSID (per model) and Wi-Fi password.
  • Allow Bluetooth/Camera/Location permissions; try next to the router.


Audio issues (no sound / mic not working)

  • Settings > Audio settings: raise Speaker/Microphone volume; enable Audio recording.
     Audio recording laws vary by region. Always ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Phone volume/mute switch; microphone permission ON.


Light or siren doesn’t trigger

  • Check Light settings (Settings > Light Settings > Light activation) and Siren settings (Settings > Detection settings > Activate siren on detection).
  • Make sure the detection schedule or light schedule isn’t limiting when they turn on.
  • Confirm detection is triggering (use Show motion bounding box for visual confirmation, available on specific models only).


MicroSD card problems

  • Use a high-endurance card; Format storage in Settings > Storage.
  • When full, oldest footage overwrites.
  • Make sure the microSD card is compatible with your device; check the product specifications sheet.
